TMS understands the importance of community-building and finding ways to celebrate and have fun. And so we schedule multiple activities and events over the course of the year to give our students a broad range of experiences. Many of these events are made possible by the generous efforts of The Godmothers of TMS.
Assembly Performances. Several times a year, TMS hosts fun performances and shows for all the students. We’ve hosted musical acts, jugglers, animal shows, storytellers, bubble blowers, and magicians, just to name a few. Virtually all of our performance assemblies are generously coordinated through Bread and Roses, an amazing volunteer organization that is “dedicated to uplifting the human spirit by providing free, live, quality shows to people who live in institutions or are otherwise isolated from society.”
Ice Cream Social. Held in June, the Ice Cream Social is a fun opportunity to fill up on cold yummy treats.
Juneteenth. We have recently begun to celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the June 19, 1865 announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. It’s a perfect opportunity for a cookout!
Santa Visit. Every December, St. Nick swings by TMS to deliver presents to all the students.
St. Patrick’s Day Lunch. A day for good food and wearing green.
Field Day. The last day of our extended school year is all about games and cold treats for everyone.
High Step Lunch. The Godmothers of TMS hosts a once-a-month luncheon for those students who have shown steady accomplishment in our behavior system.
Merit Outings. Also once a month, the Godmothers of TMS hosts an outing for our top-performing students. These include adventures like fancy brunches, going to the movies, and bowling.
Puppy Fun. Several times a year, TMS volunteers bring one or more friendly, gentle dogs to play with select boys. This is a fun and therapeutic activity that our students love.
